East-West Rail Consultation

On behalf of the government, the East West Rail Company is overseeing a project that aims to reinstate an east-west rail link across the region to cater for future growth, with the support of new local services which are quicker, cheaper and more reliable than the current transport options. 

Work on their western section of the route (from Oxford to Bedford) is already underway.

They have now put forward five route options for the Central Section of the rail line, to re-open a rail link between Bedford and Cambridge, via Sandy. You can read the full document at www.eastwestrail.co.uk/haveyoursay .

Whilst this is not our project, we are writing to alert you about this important consultation, as it may affect you. We will also be submitting our views as a council to this consultation.

The East West Rail Company is presenting their five Bedford to Cambridge routes at public drop-in events, as follows:

  • Tuesday 19 February 3:30pm - 7:30pm, at Potton and District Club, 34 Station Road, Potton SG19 2PZ.
  • Friday 1 March 3:30pm - 7:30pm, at Sandy Village Hall, Medusa Way, Sandy SG19 1BN.

Bedford Borough Council Local Plan 2035

The draft Local Plan has been produced subject to approval by the Borough Council Executive. The sites previously identified for development at Gibraltar Corner have all been removed from the Plan. There are now no proposed sites in Kempston Rural at all. here is a link:

Crime Update October 2017

There have been a number of burglaries & thefts in the Parish. Please be vigilant & see our community safety page for practical advice. If you see anything suspicious please call 101. If a crime is in progress you should still call 999.

   

Developer Contributions

£50,000 has been received from David Wilson Homes to be spent on:

 “provision, improvement or maintenance of a community hall or similar facility or projects reasonably capable of serving the development at Land West of Kempston as agreed under the S106”. 

 The Parish Council welcomes applications for grants from residents, groups or organisations, for projects that clearly meet the criteria above. For more information, please contact The Clerk.

 

Rookery Pit Stewartby

Covanta has joined up with Veolia to resurrect the plans to have an energy from waste facility at Rookery Pit. The Planning consent expires in 2018, so they have until then to obtain a permit from the Environment Agency. There is an action group against the Incinerator, known as BACI - Bedfordshire Against Covanta Incinerator. They have a Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/residentsagainstcovanta/

 

 Residents Petition Wootton Rd

Residents of Wootton Rd have submitted a petition to Bedford Borough Council for Average Speed Cameras between Keeley Lane & Gibralter Corner. The Parish Council supports this initiative. The Borough Council discussed the petition on 14/10/15, & we understand they are now investigating the possibility, subject to funding.
